On August 20, 2022 Ian Cox went on a solo trek through the North Cascades and didn’t return. WASSPU members were on site at North Cascades National Park, alongside the rangers and several other search teams, as the search proceeded for several days.
As Ian’s family struggled to cope with a loss too big to comprehend, they poured their energy into creating an epic event designed to support local search and rescue teams and on October 22, 2022, Ian’s and his twin brothers 30th birthday, the first annual Dick’s-A-Thon was born.
That year $32k was raised and donated to Washington State Search and Rescue Teams.
And now, on Saturday, October 21, 2023 the second annual Dick’s-A-Thon is back with even bigger goals to support Washington State Search and Rescue Teams, including WASSPU.
So what is the Dick’s-A-Thon? It’s the most unique, regional challenge you could imagine – run, walk, eat your way through a tour of Seattle’s crown jewels, Dick’s Drive-Ins!
